PETALING JAYA – The Board of Directors ("the Board") of Packet One Networks (Malaysia) Sdn.Bhd. ("P1") announced today that Shukor Karim has been appointed as new Chairman of the Board. The appointment is effective 30 September.
Shukor Karim, the newly appointed Chairman of the Company commented, "With joint efforts of the Board, the management team and the entire staff, P1 has grown into an outstanding company. In this new role, I will fulfill my duty to my best endeavor, to enhance the company’s capability of value creation and sustainable growth."
Chief Executive Officer of P1 Michael Lai commented, "En. Shukor Karim has abundant experience in the technology industry in Malaysia. With Shukor’s capable leadership and deep industry knowledge, the management is confident that the company and value for the shareholders are in great hands."
Shukor Karim, 55, joined Green Packet Berhad as an Independent Non-Executive Director in May 2008. He was appointed to the Board of Packet One Networks (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd in 2009.
Shukor began his career as a Systems Analyst with the Government of Malaysia (GoM). He remained with the GoM till 1982, when he left to join Sapura Holdings as one of the founding members of Sapura IT. He was with Sapura for 23 years, leaving the group in 2005 as the group's Chief Operating Officer.
During his time in Sapura, he helped develop Sapura into one of Malaysia's largest IT companies with more than 1,000 employees. Among his accomplishments in Sapura, he ran the Apple Computer distribution network in Malaysia, Singapore and parts of the region from 1986 to 2000. He was also involved in the establishment of APIIT, one of Malaysia’s premier IT Universities. He was also Managing Director of STH Consortium which created and implemented the Total Airport Management System (TAMS) for the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). It was the largest civilian systems integration contract awarded by the GoM then.
Shukor was also directly involved in set-up of ADAM 017, Sapura’s cellular network which had more than 150k subscribers, when it was sold to Timedotcom.
Shukor served PIKOM (Persatuan Industri Komputer dan Multimedia Malaysia) in various capacities from 1989 to 2002. He was Chairman of PIKOM from 1993 to 1995. Currently, he is also an Independent, Non-Executive Director of Theta Edge Berhad, a subsidiary of Tabung Haji.
Shukor graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Computation from University of Manchester, Institute of Science and Technology in 1979.
